Sweden-based gaming company Global Gaming is seeking a new auditor, after current incumbent KPMG notified the firm of an early termination of its assignment.
The embattled organisation, that is currently undergoing an appeal of a licence revocation in Sweden, stated that KPMG, led by auditor-in-charge Jonas Nihlberg, has this week elected to call an early termination of its audit contract.
In a media statement it was commented that “the company has reviewed the auditing firm’s letter and it is clear that the auditing work carried out by KPMG for 2019 has not given rise to any issues on the part of the auditor”.
The process of finding a new auditor will begin immediately, with the company electing call an extraordinary general meeting with a view to filling the void as soon as possible.
Tobias Fagerlund, acting CEO of Global Gaming, remained defiant in the face of its ongoing Swedish dispute and KPMG withdrawal: “Today’s message from our auditors at KPMG came as a surprise. Whilst we understand that the case against the gambling authority might raise questions and concerns, it is our conviction that the ongoing case will ultimately show that the gambling authority’s decision was incorrect and disproportionate. It is unfortunate that their decisions should have side effects of this kind.”
Earlier the month Swedish regulator Spelinspektionen revoked the licence of Global Gaming subsidiary SafeEnt, after discovering “serious deficiencies” in the company’s operations.
The regulator commented that following a review SafeEnt was found to have “violated several of the most central parts of the game law,” which are aimed at protecting players against excessive gambling.
Bringing an end to its flagship Ninja Casino and spellandet.com entities in the Swedish market, the company issued its intent to appeal spearheaded by a belief that compliance with the new regulations was being met.
A further blow was dealt by the Administrative Court, however, after announcing that the ban will stand while the decision to revoke the company’s license is being tested.
