In a statement issued today, the Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) said that it has “…expedited the expected March 11, 2020, launch of onsite sports betting at the Detroit casinos (tribal casino onsite betting is regulated under federal law)”.

The agency added that it has begun the rule making process for online sports betting, online casino betting and online fantasy sports.

“We expect the process to take about a year (see estimated timeline here),” it said, adding: “Members of the public and stakeholders will have an opportunity to review and suggest modifications and/or additions to the rules.”

Detroit casinos have already been preparing for this week’s announcement, with MGM Grand Detroit having installed two rows of sports betting kiosks near its entrance.

And the timing will be welcomed by stakeholders, with a March 11 launch happening only days in advance of the start of this year’s March Madness NCAA college basketball tournament.
