SBC Digital Summit North America to evaluate future of betting and media partnerships

The impact of legalized sports betting on the US sports media and the partnership opportunities it may create for sportsbook operators will be the subject of an in-depth examination at SBC Digital Summit North America.

The Media & Sports Betting – CEO Panel is part of the agenda for the opening day of the North American edition of SBC’s highly-successful virtual conference and exhibition series, which takes place on July 14 – 16 2020.

Media companies have been quick to spot the potential offered by legalized sports betting in the US and Fox Sports, Verizon Media, Vox Media, and Turner Sports have already entered into either wagering or content-based partnerships with sportsbook operators.

Further media outlets are now trying to position themselves to take advantage of the expected growth of sports betting, but how will that influence the type of content delivered to fans and what will it mean for betting companies’ efforts to engage with players?

The session will see a panel of experts take a detailed look at those issues and share their ideas about where the biggest opportunities may lie for both betting and media businesses.

It features John Levy (CEO, Score Media & Gaming Inc.), who is uniquely placed to offer insights on the subject after his media business successfully launched the mobile sports betting app, theScore Bet. He is joined on the panel by Charles Gillespie (CEO, Gambling.com), and Brian Musburger (CEO, VSiN).

SBC’s Marketing & Communications Director for North America Kevin Smith, who will moderate the panel, said: “There should be a natural synergy between sports media outlets and sports betting operators, but as we’ve seen in Europe, while such partnerships can be hugely beneficial, they are not always successful.

“It’ll be fascinating to hear from some of the people at the heart of the relationship between the two industries to discover why they believe partnerships can work in the U.S. and Canada, and how they will influence the type of content delivered to sports fans.”

The Media & Sports Betting – CEO Panel forms part of SBC Digital Summit North America’s Online conference and networking track, one of five tracks, each of which has content on all three days of the virtual event.

The track features three In Conversation With one-to-one interviews, with legendary Las Vegas oddsmaker Roxy Roxborough, DraftKings’ Chief Business Officer Ezra Kurcharz, and Barstool Sports’s CEO Erika Nardini all set to discuss their careers and the state of the US sports betting industry.

Delegates can also take in the Sports Betting 101 workshop, together with conference sessions on Responsibility in Affiliation, Assessing the Payments Infrastructure, and The State of Esports Betting. Panelists include senior team members from MGM Resorts, Better Collective, the National Council on Problem Gambling, XLMedia, Worldpay, the Nevada Gaming Control Board, KPMG, Great.com, Paul Hastings LLC, and GameCo

SBC Digital Summit North America will use an advanced technological platform to allow delegates in their homes and offices to access high-level conference content, explore the latest sports betting innovations, and connect with people from across the industry.

The conference element of the virtual trade show includes four further tracks – Regulatory, Sports, Innovation, and Land-Based. Each of them have associated themed networking sessions, which will provide delegates with a straightforward way to connect with operators, suppliers, and affiliates from their part of the gambling industry.

Delegates can also view market-leading products from international suppliers at the 30-booth interactive exhibition, which will be accompanied by a program of product presentations, workshops, and exhibitor activities throughout the three days. Staff from the suppliers will be available to answer questions, conduct product demonstrations, and discuss how they can work with both online sportsbooks and brick-and-mortar casinos.
