The National Lottery Community Fund (NLCF) has announced it will distribute a share of £4.1m in grants to 121 communities across Wales.

One group celebrating its inclusion in the latest round of grant announcements is Swansea-based Gambling Guardian CIC.

The NLCF reported that Gambling Guardian will receive a grant of £9,950 which it will use to offer digital peer support for people who are at risk of falling into gambling debts and addiction due to the financial strain caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Founder and CEO Nick Phillips recently told Lottery Daily about the organisation’s focus on bringing awareness to those suffering from problem gambling within the armed forces after himself and fellow Director Drew Crainie both suffered from gambling-related harm while serving.

He said: “We are a new organisation which plans to work and use the funds to raise awareness of gambling-related harm within the Armed Forces. Drew and myself are both veterans and both suffered with gambling-related harm whilst serving.

“We plan to work on delivering awareness within the military and veteran community. We will also support people who come forward by signposting them to relevant support services.”

The NLCF awards money raised by National Lottery players to communities across the UK. Since June 2004, it has made over 200,000 grants and awarded over £9bn to projects that have benefited millions of people.

Throughout 2020, the National Lottery Community Fund distributed more than £650m to communities across the UK thanks to lottery player spend.
