La Liga sides Celta Vigo and Cádiz FC have announced that the clubs have signed deals with betting firms Betway and Dafabet, respectively, ahead of the new season.

Celta Vigo’s two-year partnership with Betway sees the firm become the official bookmaker of the club, while also acquiring a range of in-stadium advertising rights. Additionally, Celta will collaborate with the bookmaker through promotional content with regards to upcoming La Liga matches.

Ricardo Barros, Celta Vigo’s vice-president, stated: “In RC Celta we are very satisfied with this agreement, since it is very important for the sport that a brand of international prestige offers his support in a few especially complicated moments.

“It is not easy to obtain this type of support in the current circumstances, with so much social and economic uncertainty, and for that reason in the club we value this agreement very positively, which allows us to continue growing as an entity and brand, and to continue advancing in our international expansion.”

The deal sees Betway strengthen its Spanish presence having recently agreed a front-of-short sponsorship with Real Betis. Moreover, the bookmaker currently holds sponsorships with Premier League side West Ham United.

As alluded to prior, newly promoted side Cádiz FC has also announced a partnership with a betting brand. The team has partnered with Dafabet to become its main sponsor for the next two seasons.

The partnership sees the firm become Cádiz’s front-of-short sponsor while also gaining a presence on its training and travel clothing.

John Cruces, Dafabet’s head of sponsorship, stated: “We must congratulate Cádiz for their return to LaLiga, and for those who represent our first steps in Spanish football. This alliance will help us to strengthen our global footprint, starting from the union with the important Cadista fans ”.

Manuel Vizcaíno, president of the Cádiz Football Club, also highlighted that he is “proud that Cádiz is the club that opens the doors of Spain to Dafabet”, whilst also recognising that the step will also “reinforce the internationalisation project of our brand, which has no borders”.

Insider Insight: Both deals could come as a surprise given Spain’s uncertain relationship with betting sponsorships in football. Whilst not being passed as law yet, Alberto Garzón, the head of Spain’s ministry of consumer affairs has recently submitted a proposal for a blanket ban on all shirts and in stadium gambling sponsorship in Spain.
