The National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) of Brazil has published a “Request for Information” calling on consultants and expert organizations to contribute to the “Structuring of the Fixed Odds Lottery Project (Sports Betting)”.

Through this call, the Brazilian Government aims to promote the process to contract technical services to structure the sports betting concession/authorization project, approved by Federal Law 13,746/2018. Once the Government takes this step, the Ministry of Economy will reveal the size of the investment, number of licenses, the validity and the details of the concession model.

As reported by BNL Data, the move was undertaken in alliance with the Secretariat of Evaluation, Planning, Energy and Lottery (SECAP), which comes under the Ministry of Economy, through Decree 10.467/2020. The “Request for Information” seeks to identify which companies operate in the market in order to shape the project.

Based on the consultants and experts elected for this project, Brazil will structure the economic-financial model for the privatization programs, the lottery and sports betting projects and the people who will take charge of the legal advice for the concessions.

At the end of 2020, SECAP estimated that the industry will be fully operational by July 2021. This call for consultants and expert companies to participate in the “Request for Information” is part of the required steps for the sports betting industry to finally become a reality in Brazil.
