The Global Lottery Monitoring System (GLMS) has reelected Lottomatica’s Ludovico Calvi as its President, as well as a new Executive Committee for the period 2021-2023 during its recent online General Assembly.
The Executive Committee forms one of GLMS’ four governing bodies, together with the General Secretariat, headquartered in Lausanne, the General Meeting (membership) and the Auditors. It is made up of eight members, including a Chair, acting as President, and a Vice Chair. Each committee member has to represent a different country’s lottery.
GLMS members voted to reappoint Calvi as President for his third mandate, while FDJ’s Sport Integrity Director Gilles Maillet has been appointed as Vice-Chair for his first mandate, replacing the Hong Kong Jockey Club’s (HKJC) Rupert Bolingbroke who did not stand for election.
While four members are elected directly by the GLMS membership, four are nominated by the association’s collective co-founding members, the World Lottery Association (WLA) and European Lotteries (EL), each of whom present two nominees for validation by the membership.
The elected members of the Executive Committee of the GLMS for the term 2021-2023 are (in alphabetical order): Ludovico Calvi, Lottomatica (Chair/President); Lat Diop, LONASE; Younès EL Mechrafi, MDJS; and Lori Sullivan, OLG.
The nominees of WLA and EL were also validated: Michael Fitzsimons, HKJC – WLA nominee; Fàbian Garcia Saetonne, La Banca de Quinielas – WLA nominee; Gilles Maillet, FDJ – EL nominee (Vice-Chair); and Jens Nielsen, Danske Spil – EL nominee.
Commenting on his third presidential mandate, Calvi said: “I am delighted and privileged to have been appointed President of GLMS for a third consecutive term. I would like to thank all members of GLMS for the renewed trust.”
The President also reflected on what he has managed to accomplish during his last two terms.
These include reviewing the GLMS organisation effectively; investment in competent human and technical resources; drawing new, transparent and more effective processes and governance; implementing new and more efficient statutes, which will allow GLMS to grow a diversified membership base involving new strategic sport integrity stakeholders; strengthening relations with key public and private stakeholders worldwide; defining and implementing a new communication strategy; engaging and increasing the membership base effectively.
Calvi continued: “We have set very solid foundations to drive the success of our Association in the titanic fight against match fixing and to protect sports integrity worldwide.
“I am honoured to have been re-elected since this would allow me to carry on the mission of growing the GLMS network worldwide and disseminating its core values while guaranteeing continuity and strengthening the association.
“I am fully convinced that GLMS represents a tremendous vehicle not only for our Association and its members but also for all other key interested stakeholders, our communities, and our society as a whole.”
