The Betting and Gaming Council has released a new video titled, ‘2020 in review: Our year of safer gambling’ as the industry body looks back at the past 12 months.

Published on its social channels, the video goes through the calendar year highlighting various challenges the industry has faced, such as retail closures, various lockdown measures and securing COVID relief funding, and emphasised the BGC’s role in aiding in these obstacles.

The video commenced by stating: “The Betting and Gaming Council was formed a year ago. It was set up to bring together the bulk of the regulated betting and gaming industry. The betting and gaming industry contributes £8.7bn to the UK economy. It pays £3.2bn in tax and supports more than 100,000 jobs.”

Brigid Simmonds, chairman of the BGC, commenting in the video, marked the BGC’s first anniversary and looked to the future by noting: “The BGC has achieved a great deal in the last year but there is much more that we need to do. We now look forward to working with the government on review of the Gambling Act and working with ministers to see where we can raise standards further.

“We want to be a well regulated industry that is one that we can all be proud of throughout the world.”

Moreover, the video also looks at how responsible gambling measures have progressed in regards to under 18s advertising restrictions, new rules on VIP schemes, new codes of conducts for game design and much more.
