Grosvenor Casinos will reopen 44 of its sites in England from August 1 following its temporary closures due to COVID-19, report media outlets.
The casino operator’s branches, part of the Rank Group, will welcome back its guests, having been closed since March, following the government announcement that permitted impending reopenings with the implementation of strict distancing measures.
The news also follows a prior plea made by Matt Rudd, general manager Grosvenor Casino Birmingham, in a blog post via the Betting and Gaming Council, who added his voice “to thousands of others” by asking the government to allow venues to return to action.
Last week, Prime Minister Boris Johnson confirmed that casinos in England can reopen from the start of August, but those in Wales and Scotland will have to wait for their own reopening dates to be confirmed.
Jonathon Swaine, managing director of Grosvenor Casinos, is quoted as stating: “The health and safety of our customers and team remains our priority. We want to create the best gaming and hospitality experience which guests know and love and a lot of work has gone into ensuring we have the highest standards of hygiene and safety measures in place to do so when we reopen.”
Featuring in a video for the casino, former unified world cruiserweight and WBA world heavyweight boxing champion David Haye highlighted some of the health and safety measures implemented at all the venues on reopening.

Customers are expected to use hand sanitiser which will be available at dispensers with ‘enhanced cleaning’ taking place throughout the day which includes tables, chips and machines. Masks will be offered as an option to wear.
For all gaming tables and between electronic machines, screens will be available along with restrictions on the number of people who can play games at one time.
Guests are reportedly encouraged to use contactless payments where possible, but venues will still be accepting cash as an alternative.
