As global economies begin to plot the path to recovery following mandated COVID-19 shutdowns, an added number of US casinos have begun to detail reopening strategies.

The Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa

The Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa has announced it will reopen to the general public at 10am on July 26, following its closure due to COVID-19.

The resort’s amenity offerings will initially be limited with plans to open additional venues in the coming weeks and months. Before its opening, the casino is set to host an invitation-only event. 

“Following the Governor’s directive to postpone indoor dining, we took a step back to reassess our reopening date to ensure we could give our guests the world-class experience they expect from us, safely,” said Melonie Johnson, president and COO of Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa.

“When we reopen, Borgata will introduce new outdoor dining experiences, as well as a convenient takeout program from several of our fine and casual dining outlets. We appreciate our guests’ and employees’ patience and understanding and look forward to welcoming them back.”

The Blue Lake Casino and Hotel

The Blue Lake Casino and Hotel and the Play Station 777 have reopened again to the public. 

Both California properties have announced the introduction of thermal screenings and implemented the requirement for guests to wear face coverings and must abide by social distancing guidelines. 

Hand washing and sanitising stations have been placed throughout both locations with food and drink only allowed in designated areas.

 

 

The Avi Resort and Casino

The Avi Resort and Casino reopened its doors on Monday 13 July, with new operation hours in place along with added health and safety protocols.

Upon reopening, the casino went through a ‘property-wide’ deep clean and will close between 4am to 7am for continuous deep cleaning.

Safety measures at the Avi will include mandatory face coverings for both guests and employees, as well as temperature checks. 

The entity has stated it will continue to review its safety measures and protocols and implement ‘best practices to protect the safety and health of the community the and Avi family’.

The Encore Boston Harbor

The Encore Boston Harbor reopened on Sunday following in the footsteps of the Plainridge Park Casino, which was the first casino in Massachusetts to welcome back guests.

The casino opened with several new guidelines in place which include: 

  • Non-invasive thermal temperature scans at all guest and employee entrances (no guest or employee with a temperature of 100.4 or more will be allowed in the resort).
  • Mandatory face coverings for all employees and guests, with complimentary face coverings available for guests.
  • Enhanced cleaning and disinfecting of guest areas throughout the day.
  • Multiple hand sanitiser stations and disinfecting wipes available throughout the resort.
  • Appropriate and comfortable physical distancing in all gaming and dining areas.

The MGM Springfield

The MGM Springfield was the final Massachusetts casino to reopen on Monday with the implementation of new rules and regulations.

On reopening, employees will be temperature checked and receive COVID-19 specific training. Both employees and guests will be required to wear masks in public areas, which will be provided free of charge.

A physical distancing policy will be implemented with floor guides placed to help customers. Plexiglass barriers have also been installed.
