DFS and sportsbook operator FanDuel Group was quick off the mark yesterday in summarizing some of the headline betting figures to emerge from the weekend’s Super Bowl LV action. Although final numbers are subject to change, they make for interesting reading.

A statement issued by the firm yesterday noted: “Brady to Gronkowski delivered a championship win to the city of Tampa and to FanDuel Group customers tonight. The night started off with $1.7m paid out to FanDuel Sportsbook customers when the opening coin toss landed on HEADS.

“Gronkowski’s first touchdown paid out $3.1m to customers that selected the Tight End in the First TD Scorer market and paid out another $650k to customers when Gronkowski scored his second TD.”

According to FanDuel, new customers also had a “great night” with Tampa’s dominance as they recouped $17m as part of FanDuel Sportsbook’s 55-1 offer. “Overall, the Tampa win and cover of the +3 spread paid out more than $27m to FanDuel customers in pre-match betting on the core Spread and Money Line markets,” said the firm.

The company also claimed that its FanDuel Sportsbook app was the third most downloaded app in the Apple Store yesterday behind only TikTok and Robinhood. “In addition, Fox’s Super Six and FanDuel’s Big Game Bingo had approximately two million free-to-play entries across our FanDuel Group Properties,” it confirmed.

FanDuel advised that in-play wagers, prop bets and parlays were due to be calculated and paid out to customers throughout the evening which would affect the final numbers.
