The 19 casinos that are partially operating in Chile generated $3.3m in contributions during February operations. This revenue will be distributed among the country’s jurisdictions in May 2021.

Although the month started with 19 operating casinos – 14 which received a concession and five municipal casinos – the new restrictions introduced due to a rise in COVID-19 cases reduced the number to 17 in the first weeks of February.

Currently, the casinos in the regions of Arica, Talca, Chillán, Los Angeles, Coyhaique and Natales are still not operational.

According to the official report of the Superintendency of Gambling Casinos (SCJ), the 19 casinos generated gross gaming revenue (GGR) of $11.4m, or 32.4% of what was generated in February 2020, when all the casinos were still operating.

Additionally, only 74,840 people visited the casinos, which is just 10% of the number expected in February 2020 across the 19 venues. Operators also recorded that each person spent around $100 when visiting the facilities, implying a real increase of around 100% when compared to the same month last year.

Back in January, casinos reported revenues of $3.8m. Of the 26 licensed casinos in the South American country, only 14 operated in the first month of the year. The 10 casinos authorized by Law 19.995 and the four casinos with municipal concessions generated gross gaming revenues of $14m, although it represents just a 40.9% of what was registered in the same month a previous year.
