Federación Nacional de Bancas de Loterías (Fenabanca), the Dominican Republic’s national federation of lottery agencies, has voiced its support for the new regulations for gambling and lotteries that President Luis Abinader is planning.

Both the federation and the President understand that regulating these activities in the Dominican Republic is necessary.

“Fenabanca and the Association of Lottery Concessionaires (Asocol) welcome the position of President Abinader in creating a decree that regularizes once for all activities of gambling and lottery agencies in the Dominican Republic,” said Rubén Jiménez, President of Fenabanca.

According to information shared by Diario Libre, Jiménez assured that the intention is to also eliminate all lottery agencies created since August 16, 2020, to date, as “the President understands that this is something that sharply affects the quality of the sector and the Dominican society.”

On the other hand, the President of Fenabanca celebrated that “ambulant sales are being persecuted,” since he believes that “it’s a crime that affects the interests of our business.”

“Therefore, Fenabanca and Asocol support the President’s stance and we hope that this will be fulfilled as soon as possible,” he added.

In mid-April, Abinader asked that the more than 4,000 lottery agencies that have opened since became president be closed. In addition, he asked representatives of the sector and the administrator of the National Lottery to present a proposal to seek solutions to cover the problems that the lottery sector faces every day.
